With cellist Dom La Nena, Marianne Denicourt brings out all the poetic fulgurance of the 31st novel by Amélie Nothomb, one of France's favorite authors and winner of the Prix Renaudot 2021.

Marianne Denicourt was still a student at Les Amandiers, the theater school in Nanterre, when Jacques Doillon spotted her and offered her the lead role in L'Amoureuse in 1987. From then on, she divided her time between auteur films and hit movies: Francis Girod's Passage à l'acte, Patrick Timsit's Quelqu'un de bien and Claude Lelouch's Les plus belles années d'une vie.

Here, she offers a reading of excerpts from Amélie Nothomb's latest novel, accompanied by French-Brazilian cellist and composer Dom La Nena. Half of the "Birds on a Wire" duo. The latter performs on some of the world's finest stages, touring with artists including Étienne Daho and Jane Birkin.

In this dark tale, little Tristane, a gifted child, fails to find her place in a home where her parents' love for each other is overwhelming. The sudden arrival of a little sister, Laetitia, is the catalyst for the upheavals to come. The result is "music that should never be silenced", a powerful fable about the bonds of the heart and the power of words.*
