Laurent Petitgirard & the Orchestre National de Cannes

Vertiges de la Harpe – Classical

Laurent Petitgirard is an eclectic musician whose career as a composer spans symphonic works, operas — he has written two and is currently working on a third — chamber music, and film scores, including for directors such as Otto Preminger and Jacques Demy. Alongside his compositions, he enjoys a distinguished career as a conductor.

Following performances of his works at the Opéra de Nice, he now conducts the Orchestre National de Cannes this evening in the gardens of the Villa, presenting a programme dedicated to the harp. Joined by soloists Vincent Lucas on flute and Marie-Pierre Langlamet on harp, and accompanied by the orchestra’s 24 musicians, he invites us to discover his Concerto for Flute, Harp and String Orchestra, along with Dances for Harp and String Orchestra by Claude Debussy, the Adagietto from Gustav Mahler’s Fifth Symphony, and Variations on a Theme of Frank Bridge by Benjamin Britten.
